Hong Huifang at ease letting daughter Tay Ying spread her wings in China

It's time for Tay Ying to spread her wings.

Hong Huifang has confirmed that her daughter will be moving to China to kick-start her acting career by the end of this month. 

The veteran actress shared with Shin Min Daily News that she is not worried about her child embarking on a new adventure in life. 

Times have changed and the entertainment industry has matured, the 59-year-old said.

In the past, actresses who set out to work in foreign countries had to suffer silently when they faced mistreatment, but that is not the case in recent times. 

"Now, whenever actresses feel like something is unfair, it is okay to speak up to prevent others from taking advantage of you," she said.

Instant communication tools like Whatsapp and LINE also make it easier for her to communicate with her daughter when she's living overseas. After all, should Tay Ying encounter any problems, her mum is just a text message away. 

The budding actress' independent nature also puts her mum at ease -- she has already made preparations for the big move.

But dad Zheng Geping will be following her to China to help her settle in.

After undergoing training at a Chinese entertainment company, the 23-year-old will discuss acting opportunities.

When asked if Tay Ying has set herself a goal to achieve while abroad, her mum said that she left her with advice to take this chance to broaden her horizons. 

"I told her that if she is able to make her mark in an industry as big as China's, she can make her mark anywhere else too."

Last year, Tay Ying auditioned at a Shanghai acting school, where she came in seventh out of 700 applicants.
